From 11.30AM to 12.30 PM Sjoerd Tamminga plays a special programme around Perfect Day on the Laura Spelman Rockefeller Memorial Carillon in the Riverside Church. The usual carillonneur of Riverside Church is Dionisio Lind.
Lou Reed will be attending this performance.

The Netherlands
In the Netherlands 'Perfect Day' will be played all over the day on all carillons that take part in the event. In the morning the carillon of the Martini Tower in Groningen will start the celebrations and at the end of the day the carillon of the Maria Magdalena Church in Goes will finish the day in style. During the day carillons all over the Netherlands will chime 'Perfect Day'. In Apeldoorn the mobile carillon 'De Paltz' will be played during the visit of Queen Beatrix.

LOU REED
On the website www.loureed.com click News >2008> ‘Beautiful performance of Perfect Day’ to hear Sjoerd Tamminga play the song. November 2008, Lou Reed was in Groningen at the occasion of a series of concerts by his wife Laurie Anderson, and he visited the Martini Tower at the invitation of the originators of the carillon event. The city's carillonneur Auke de Boer showed him around, and Lou Reed and his wife played the Groninger bells together. Lou Reed showed a great interest in the historical instrument and gave his permission to use his song 'Perfect Day' for this special project.

BACKGROUND

For the programme on the celebration of the Hudson Year, see www.ny400.org. Since 1998 'Perfect Day' can be heard on the carillon in Goes on every Queen's Day every fifteen minutes. Sonologist Jorrit Tamminga, son of Sjoerd Tamminga, made a special arrangement for the carilloncomputer. This is part of the programme on Queen's Day around De Stenen Brug, an artproject which has yearly organised a new-style Queen's Day since 1998. On the occasion of the celebration of the excellent American-Dutch relations this local initiative on Queen's Day extends for once to The Netherlands ánd New York.
