On
Queen's Day, Thursday April 30th
2009, the event Carillon 2009 'Perfect Day' takes place
simultaneously in New York and in the Netherlands. On that day the
song 'Perfect Day' of the celebrated rockmusician Lou Reed is
performed on all carillons in the Netherlands, as well as on the
world's biggest carillon at the Riverside Church in New York.
The performance is part of the festivities concerning the celebration of the Hudson Year. In 2009 it is 400 years ago that Henry Hudson set foot on the soil of present-day Manhattan.
The
renowned carillonneur Sjoerd Tamminga from Goes (NL) will play the
carillon of the Riverside Church in
New York, the biggest
instrument of its kind, as visiting musician. The
influential
American musician and singer Lou Reed will be
present. Initiators of this project are Kris Elzer from Groningen and
Eddy Beekman from Goes (NL) of the artfoundation StichtLicht.
